HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is also known as a pregnancy hormone. It is secreted by the placenta when the ovum or egg is implanted in the uterine wall. The three main uses of HCG are to treat infertility in women, increase the sperm count in men, and it is also used in weight loss. You have probably heard of the HCG diet.
If you are seeking help in conceiving and are considering HCG, HCG injections are administered under the skin or into a muscle. When a mature egg follicle is in your ovary, and you receive an HCG injection, this can help the egg to be released and mature. Usually within 36 hours of getting the injection, ovulation can occur. This is how HCG aids in infertility treatments. Usually HCG injections are used with other forms of fertility treatments such as artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and the use of Clomiphene citrate.
Some of the most common side effects of HCG injections are breast pain, tenderness, swelling or pain. Some women have experienced slight weight gain due to retaining fluids irritability, depression, and mood swings. These moderate but not severe side effects are due to the hormonal changes taking place in your body due to the injections.
Also you have to keep in mind that HCG is a pregnancy hormone and if you take a pregnancy test, it could give you a positive reading although you are not actually pregnant. So if you take a pregnancy test before the hormone has had time to clear your system, you will get a false-positive reading. This may cause some women some emotional upset thinking that they are pregnant when in fact they are not. To avoid this type of disappointment, take your pregnancy test after two weeks of receiving your injections to ensure the hormone has cleared your system .Your physician should inform you of this.
Before considering using HCG please inform your physician if you have any of the following:
• An ovarian cyst
• Heart disease
• Premature puberty
• Unexplained uterine bleeding
• Kidney disease
• An adrenal gland or thyroid disorder
HCG diet drops or injection shots can help you to lose weight by tricking the body into thinking that you are pregnant. Now I am not sure if this is effective for men but some women who have taken the injections or drops have seen significant weight loss.
HCG targets the hypothalamus in your brain telling your body to release abnormal fat that is stored throughout your body into your bloodstream. When this stored fat is released, it is available to be used as energy which in turn is burned. While taking just the shots or the drops is not enough, you will have to drastically reduce your caloric intake to about 500 calories per day.
HCG only releases the abnormal fat not the healthy fat in your body. It also does not break down muscle tissue. This helps you to get a lean and trim figure. You will be losing fat in those problematic areas such as your waist, hips, thighs, arms, and buttocks!
When you undergo your treatments, whether you take the injections or the drops, each treatment round takes a minimum of 26 days. Out of the 26 days, you will be taking the drops or injections each day for 23 days. Your rounds of treatment may lasts up to 43 days which equates to about 40 injections. By this time, most women have lost around 34 to 40 pounds.
You won’t receive any treatments for the last three days because the hormone needs to clear your system and it takes about three days for the hormone to do its thing. After these 3 days have passed, you should be able to return to a normal diet.
